there was a time i was a dirty republican...i took a mind bath and came out an Anarcho Capitalist
Nothing wrong with being a Republican. Honestly we need more moderate thinkers in the party to actually change it. The radicals always get the attention.
I read most of the first page, very little of the second. Here's my thoughts:
The American military is the strongest. Not the largest, but the strongest. Best trained and equipped. So if we are outnumbered 2:1 but have a casualty rate of 4:1 or 5:1... we still win.
The economy is "recovering," so they say. It still sucks, but it's gaining momentum atm. But without cheap imports from China and southeast Asia, we would struggle.
As to healthcare... fuck this new system. Premiums go way up, as well as wait times. But wait, it's free! Or... not. Because now EVERYONE has to buy into it, or you get a fine. As if you had the money to pay the fine, because you didn't have the money to buy into the plan. hmm...
Long story short: I'm American, and proud to be. I fought for my country and bled for my country. I wouldn't want to be anything else. But is America perfect? Hell no. Take a look at our foreign aid budget, and then take a look at the cuts to Veteran's benefits. hmm... Fucked up, really.
Every country has their strong points, and some are outweighed by their weak points. But every country has the possibility to be more, only waiting to be realized.

lol
you are aware that in vietnam america was practically throwing away people lives the entire time despite their military technology, knowledge and experience?
I even remember hearing a story about a small squad of 12 australian SAS troops being dropped into the area. they immediately came under fire by a large amount of people and saw it upon themselves to fire back.
eventually the call came over the radio to stop fighting as it was americans shooting at them. In the aftermath aparently 10 or so americans died out of 100-200. no australians died.

Yeah but then Americans can come right back and point out how they saved Australia from being overrun in WW2. Swings and Roundabouts.
And also, the SAS were in a target rich environment so their kills don't really mean much but it's impressive that none of them died

government is evil, therefore, republicans are evil
We announced that the banks were too big to fail and let them do whatever they want, forever. Meanwhile little old Iceland flipped the banks off, and told all of them to shove it then locked them in jail. I'd say they are more powerful in terms of protecting their people and setting them up to succeed. If you just mean powerful like killing people sure we win. We as in the rich people that pull our strings.
I disagree the fact near every american has a gun in there home kinda says it all?? Just putting my two cents
give it time mate. When push comes to shove, I would bet you the people of the north will turn in their guns willingly to abide by the law, while gradually the rest of the country would follow like a domino effect. It'll be a cold day when mine go, that's for sure. Notice all of the guns laws and restrictions are being tested in the north, NOT in the south

what is this "north" you speak of? my state would be considered "north" and it would be a cold day in hell before gun bans go into effect here.
but as an higher point, the best chains are the ones that people dont even know exist. Americans are given the illusion of being free, because it makes them happier slaves and happier slaves work harder for their masters.

New England area and some states surrounding. Where do you live?
Some people seem to be looking at the amount of military personnel China has and automatically thinking they are the most powerful.
The USA would absolutely destroy China if it came to war. They may have millions of soldiers but barely have any shit to actually deploy them where needed besides the shitty outdated equipment they are buying from the Russians whereas USA has the most advanced equipment in the world and could actually get their military to the place where it could do damage. China can parade as many million solders as they want to look tough but do they really think any of those would get near America?
Everyone has things that they envy about other countries. I envy the low taxes in the US, but don't wish I had their health care system (I don't like ours much either in full disclosure). I think as a whole Canada is a lot more chilled out of a peoples, which definitely has its benefits. I also bet American governments envy the structure of the Canadian financial sector compared to theirs right now too.
I really love Canada, and I am sure I would like the United States in the big picture too. I don't understand when people put nationalist arguments in the kind of light that "we are the best place on earth". Pretty subjective :P
PS: Whats up with the UK? Is nationalism in a full nose dive? Are things really THAT bad economically? I recently worked for a company that had clients all over the UK and the sentiment is almost universal- things are bad and I don't know why anyone would want to live here compared to some other western countries.
My only complaint with Canada is how liberal we are with immigrants. Let's slow it down a little and beat the attitude out of them that their religion and beliefs matter to anyone else.
Sure, pray to Allah, but you aren't: A) carrying a knife because its some sort of honor blade, b) wearing a balaclava for your passport... wtf? C) Im singing Merry Fucking Christmas, go back to where you came from if that bothers you.

I don't know how many of us actually have guns, but I am very confident it isn't "near every American."
