Also, what do you want to call the object carried in American football? What egg has two points, and is harder to break than, say, a soccer ball? (it is, at least according to the trucks I've driven working village maintanance). A ball is just the main reference object for most sports, regardless of shape. Tennisballs and baseballs turn oblong when hit, are we supposed to rename them for those moments when they aren't perfectly spherical? And what about a golfball? With all those dimples - doesn't a sphere have zero edges?
