I don't think that a libertarian wouldn't want the church and state to be mixed at all, no matter if it's on the state level or the federal level. I mostly studied political theory on a world scale and well, American definitions are really crazy at times so i'm not entirely up to date on the definitions but in my experience and studies the best way to look at it is to not have labels at all. On a world scale the libertarian theory is just opposed to authoritarian theory. It's more party-structured in America. I don't agree with him entirely but I at least respect Ron Paul because he's more upfront about what he wants than most politicians out there but he's still in the Republican camp because he kinda has to, even though he does not follow neo-conservative or paleo-conservative models.

What we truly need in this country is to get rid of this god awful two party system. We need a strong libertarian party, a strong socialist party, a strong constituionalist party, and whatever else you can think of. People need to not make sacrifices to their ideology to fit a mold. We live in a country of two extremes that compete against each other with nothing in between. It makes true compromise near impossible no matter who the President is. It means that for the rest of our country's existence we will bounce back and forth from Democrat pres, democrat congress to Republican pres, republican congress, and we'll always be dissatisfied.

My biggest thing against Ron Paul is his opposition to the 1964 civil rights act. It's something I've studied extensively. There is a lot of history behind it in the labor and employment field and (racism aside) what Title 7 did and still does today and what pressures it puts on employers. There IS a mentality supported by fact that society was already going that way and the law (which normally lags behind societal changes) was just the nail in the board. There's also some facts stating the opposite in that it helped it move along. I'll talk about it more if asked.

  • "Rep. Jesse Jackson Calls on Government to Hire All Unemployed Americans for $40,000 Each"

Causing people to eat each others brains...

The lazy sloth at work that everyone wants fired... may actually make more than you if that happens, plus benefits. Obviously the best thing to do in this case is to kill all of the unemployed people, yes! So and so was layed off at some company today. Later found beaten to death with a bat. Laying next to them the broken 72 inch flat screen TV they had just purchased, an xbox, a playstation, personal lubricant, every overpriced DVD in the store, 12 bags of family sized cheetos, 22 steaks, a new laptop, a PC, frozen fries, and 6 cases of Diet Cola.

I always love your satirical comments. The poor and hungry Irish should eat their own babies, right? (Jonathon Swift is one of my favorite authors). I can't stand Republicans or Democrats. This is a good reason why Democrats are just one big idealistic face palm away from lala land.

    Same.
  • Had a man come up to me as I was leaving my friends house this morning. He was part of a crowd (croud?) that was in that whole "Occupy" shenanigans.
He asked me if I support their cause and I had already had it at this point with these people moaning, so I played along. I said we should find the 1% and kill them, thus creating a new wealthy 1%. Safe to say my plan backfired as he realized I was messing with him and he launched into a speech about how I'm a sheep and I should care more about why I'm getting bent over in taxes, in pay etc etc etc.

Now, it is at this point I'll mention I live in Alberta, Canada. If anyone in the western world can say they are recession proof, it's us. I've only seen wage INCREASE since the "recession" hit, not decrease. My life has improved tenfold and I worked my ass off to get where I am. If you are struggling to make money in Alberta, you are in the wrong field of work and/or you are semi-retarded.

So I told him, maybe he'd be able to pay for his family's meals if he actually went to work rather than protest and expect someone to solve his problems. He didn't like that either, surprisingly, and I learned this morning that coaxing an already unhappy group of people can only end bad. Took me a solid five minutes to clean off everything they threw at me as I drove away :(
  • I don't know about Canada, but down here in the States, unemployment is pretty damn high. Which is why I'm tired of the "get a job, you lazy commies!" argument. I'm still on the fence about the protesters (I agree with them in a way, but I know that the broad idea they are trying to achieve is naive and impossible), but cut the guys some slack. At least they are doing what they feel is right.
  • Not sure about elsewhere in Canada, but EVERYWHERE is hiring in my city. Population ~1,000,000, every second store has a NOW HIRING sign.
If unemployment is high, it is sheer laziness that is causing it here.

This is true, that it can be hard to get a job in the states, even when you're trying very hard. It took me months to find the one I have now, and it's not even a good one, and that was me sending out 30 resumes a week or so. I talked to the people at some of these places as well, one job, they had 216 applicants, and I'm pretty sure it's not the highest number I was completing with.

That being said, there's a lot of stories I could tell from my area about people who are lazy bums wasting money on soda, chips, and cigarettes, and relying on the various assistance programs to do everything to take care of their kids and life. It really bothers me to see people who I know are on county aid indulging in conspicuous consumption. And a lot of these people seem to be the ones complaining the loudest. I'm not saying the system doesn't have flaws (obviously it has lots), but hypocritical people with a sense of entitlement annoy me more personally than the greedy rich guys who presumably at least did work to get to where they are.

^probably NSFW, I wasn't sure if I should even post it, but it made me lol too much. Apparently this guy's neighbor watched him for an hour, then called the other neighbor to also watch him, and only after that they decide to call the cops on him. I really wonder about those neighbors...

I'm just going to sidestep all the American politics, though apparently we have an Occupy protest just down the road from where i live. It's tucked away in a corner though, and pretty quiet and i suspect is soon going to be overwhelmed by rugby supporters as the same location is to become a fan-zone for the world cup final on Sunday XD

I saw that one about the parents who left their children behind, why can't they be as responsible as this guy:

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/americas/5815357/Dad-used-nine-year-old-as-designated-driver

And i share your concerns about those neighbors... I mean seriously? A whole hour? But i do find it funny that the owner tried to console the dog, as if it was traumatized XD

Those women are lucky he only wanted to cop a feel. Florida is full of dirty old men that would do much, much worse.

They are lucky, they are also very very dumb. A wandering breast examiner? Come on... Even blonds shouldn't have trouble with that one.

But i do find it funny that the owner tried to console the dog, as if it was traumatized XD
I laughed at this too. :P

I really wonder how often that dad had his kid drive, since she apparently wasn't doing so bad of a job...

They think it's real funny until you get out of the car and beat the crap out of one of them for damaging your property as a result of their losing a debate. Needless to say, but I will anyways, these same anti establishment folks will immediately call the police they were just cursing. If they don't show up in time they'll definitely cry about that instead.

The world is at it is. The wars will end when humanity as a whole decides that it is pointless. All of the complaining, griping, etc. is directed towards the same group that got us into this mess. As if they will correct it for us out of the kindness of their black hearts. There is a lot of talk by the establishment about Iran. I enjoy it very much because this countries response is to troll us. Every time I read about one of their stunts I grin. Bad people already have nukes and as Ron Paul so eloquently puts it we can not afford to police the world, and we shouldn't desire to do so. Instead we should lead by example.

America is a blip in history. We are the noobs, and if we don't give others respect and not carpet bomb civilian populations as we are doing in Libya... we shouldn't expect anybody to prevent this from happening to us. That situation is disgusting no matter what you think of Gaddafi. What happens when those same people hire a private army to put you down? You think you will fair any better? Do you think the media is going to defend you? The elite can move wherever the hell they want they don't need us. Keep this in mind as we move forward and certain people support the same crowd protesting them. Revolution is the path to dictatorship. FDR who they love to talk about now did serve more than two terms.

In November, authorities in Idaho investigated a similar case, involving a 37-year-old woman who allegedly impersonated a plastic surgeon and conducted breast exams in local bars.

I thought we've seen a story like it before. At least this new guy made it seem plausible (up until he molested them that is).

Wasn't the two-term limit put into effect after FDR?
  • Yes it was.
  • I'm taking that as a "my point exactly" response, but I don't see it.

Remember this guy? Seems not that long ago he made his prior prediction. Anyway, it just rolled over to midnight Friday, Oct 21 here and nothing yet...
  • it sometimes amazes me how often someone can be so publicly wrong, and still have followers still out zealously preaching your message. Just wait till next year though, when 2012 hits, the crazies will really come out of the closet.
    (Because the Mayans said so!)
  • If the Mayans could predict the end of the world, they should have seen their own demise coming...haha.

"The Mayans and Aztecs have a legend of learning great things from a bearded "white man" who came to them sometime after 500 B.C.E. The Aztecs named him Quetzalcoatl, which means "Plumed Serpent.""

"The Mayans are very much alive today, although their empire was broken down by Spanish conquistadors in the 1500s. Their descendants live on as mainly small shop-owners and merchants selling things. They still speak their own languages and many can still write in them."

"Quechua Incan prophecies predicted the white man's coming would bring 500 years of materialism and imbalance. But now they say that era is coming to an end and the Age of Aquarius will "signal the return of Light to the planet and the dawn of a golden era. We live in a time of the fulfillment of prophecy."
  • The Mayans did impressive mathematics, yes. It's when you start mixing math and religion that problems creep in, as seen by the example of this guy who has 'calculated' the end of the world 4 or 5 times now, prophesied doom and destruction, and yet we're still going. And there's the problem of people misunderstanding as well. As you pointed out, it's the end of a cycle. And I think if I remember this right off hand, the Mayans believed the world had already 'ended' multiple times from various causes (interestingly, one of them was a flood?) and then it gets renewed. I think we're due to be eaten by jaguars? Or maybe that's another one of the ends of the world that already happened. Too bad I have work or I'd spend some time looking it up again.

    Two words for you guys:

    Ancient Astronauts

I love that the history channel talks about this type of thing. It is my favorite channel. It's pretty much the only channel that I watch, unless Sookie is getting naked on HBO. Back on the subject since she deserves her own thread. Nobody can hold a candle to Giorgio Tsoukalos's haircut, and if they tried a giant fireball would kill us all. It's just amazing and proof that he is not only right but has access to ancient alien styling products.

Thought this one sounded familiar. Won't make that interesting of a film though given that everyone onboard died from the crash rather than the croc...
